Memorable recent shows range from Romare Bearden’s graphic riffs on trains, jazz and family, to quilts by India’s Siddi community, descended from 16th-century African slaves. Themed inter­active displays vary in interest and depth, but don’t miss the moving video of slave narratives narrated by Maya Angelou.

Recent exhibitions showcased Korean bojagi (hand-pieced textiles), playful modern takes on iconic Mexican handicrafts and internationally acclaimed SF artist Clare Rojas’ urban folklore mural installations.
